Description:
Instructor for a career training Composites Technology Program focused on the principles of composites molding and developing proficiencies in a broad range of composites processing methods and techniques. Course components include open molding, vacuum infusion processing, advanced composites processing, composites repair, CAD applications and operation of CNC equipment for pattern fabrication. The instructor will be responsible for assisting with the set up of a comprehensive composites learning workshop, developing teaching strategies, and identifying methods to deliver effective instruction through a variety of techniques.
The instructor will teach and will manage the learning environment. The instructor must possess mechanical aptitude, be comfortable on the composites manufacturing floor and be capable of demonstrating the applicable skills and processes about which he/she is providing instruction. This permanent position is based in Bristol, Rhode Island. The curriculum is based on a 9 month school year.
Responsibilities:
1. Apply knowledge of composites manufacturing processes, composites materials and shop practices to the curriculum. Integrate IYRS learning principles into the delivery of technical and practical training courses to prepare students for careers in the composites industry.
2. Coach/mentor students to develop applied skills. Engage subject matter experts in the delivery of specialized technical and knowledge-based training.
3. Implement a variety of learning strategies, learning solutions, and training delivery methods.
4. Evaluate students and provide constructive feedback to promote the habit of continuous improvement.
5. Interface with composites industry representatives and manufacturers to assess emerging industry trends and needs and use this information to inform students and improve instruction.

5. Comfortable communicating technical concepts and demonstrating fundamental shop skills.
6. Ability to manage a composites manufacturing environment.
7. Ability to read, analyze and interpret process documents, technical procedures and specifications, and regulatory requirements.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
9. Self-starter with a desire to help others succeed.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
1. Minimum of six years experience in composites manufacturing, including knowledge and experience ranging from basic open molding to the application of advanced composites materials.
2. Minimum of three years experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing environment.
3. Experience as an industrial skills instructor is a plus.
4. Experience or familiarity with computer aided design (CAD) software and the operation of CNC machining equipment.
5. Understands how the teaching-learning process impacts students.
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge and hands-on skills in the following areas are a plus:
- Open molding process and techniques, including hand lay-up and spray-up
- Vacuum bagging techniques
- Vacuum infusion molding process techniques
- Prepreg advanced composites fabrication, including lay-up and autoclave operation
- Repair of general composites – cosmetic and structural
- Repair of advanced composites – lay-up and hot bonding techniques
- Lofting of boat lines
- CAD system software use
- Operation of CNC equipment for pattern (plug) making
