Certificate Program in Marine Systems

Man working on an engineDeveloped in response to the marine industry’s demand for skilled labor in the growing and rapidly changing field of marine system, IYRS has partnered with the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) to develop a state-of-the-art Marine Systems training program. This intensive full-time 10-month program has been designed to teach students how to install, maintain and repair the major systems found in both power and sail boats. Classes include a balance of classroom and hands-on study.

Teacher lecturingThe following subjects are covered in-depth over the course of the year; electrical systems, electronics, steering systems, fuel systems, diesel engines, gasoline inboard engines, inboard/outboard and sail drive gear systems, marine pumps, on board tankage, marine sanitation systems, marine LPG systems, AC and refrigeration systems, and fire fighting systems.  Click here for a detailed course description of the Marine Systems program.

Students at desksStudents are taught by industry professionals with considerable experience and certification in the field. At completion of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the relevant ABYC certification exam, the highest level of industry certification available in the country.
The Marine Systems Program is held at IYRS’ satellite campus in Bristol, RI and runs from September through June. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
