Once the tools of boatbuilders and designers, yacht half-models have become treasured works of art. A half-model represents a love of sea, a classic piece of art, or even a keepsake of a boat you currently own (or wished you owned!) Making a half-model of a yacht is surprisingly simple, and requires few specialized tools. Learn how to make a gorgeous half-hull model of a classic yacht in a relaxed and comfortable setting, and leave with something you'll be proud to hang on your wall. Class includes materials for your half-model, along with tips and ideas for final finishing details to personalize your own model. Depending on class size, students may be able to select one of several yachts to build.

NEW! Basic Blacksmithing (12 hours) $425 - Restoration Hall

Learn to shape steel by heating and hammering. You will produce pieces from samples provided or customize your own design. Tool making and heat treating (hardening and tempering) is an option. The instructor will consult with each student prior to class to answer questions and preplan projects. No prior experience is required.

Introduction to Woodworking: Build a Tool Chest (12 hours) $525 (Materials: $100, Instruction: $425) - Restoration Hall

This course is for beginning woodworkers and emphasizes the development of hand tool skills. It will culminate in building a mitered hardwood plywood traditional tool chest. You will learn how to safely operate a variety of power and hand tools, how to choose proper glues and finishes and how to account for wood expansion and contraction. You will be able to customize your toolbox for your tool needs as well.

Tool Use and Sharpening (6 hours) $245 - Restoration Hall

Learn how to bring your edge tools to the peak of their abilities. This one day course will teach you how to sharpen chisels, plane irons, scrapers and even curved gouges to a razor sharp edge. We will go over a variety of sharpening systems, from low cost sandpaper on glass systems to water and diamond stones. We will look at the pros and cons of using sharpening jigs vs. sharpening freehand. Bring in some dull blades and leave with tools that you can shave with. You will be able to use the skills you develop to also sharpen a variety of other tools from axes to router bits.
