Mastering the Hand-Cut Dovetail Joint (7 hours)
$245 members, $295 non-members
Museum of Yachting

The dovetail joint is the most common woodworking joint associated with fine craftsmanship. It also has a reputation for being a difficult joint to master, and this tends to scare people away from even trying it without expensive router jigs. In fact, the dovetail is a relatively simple joint to make, but it requires careful layout and good sawing skills. Luckily, these are skills that you can learn in a day. We'll go over layout, sawing and chiseling techniques, as well as ways to hide the inevitable mistakes that even seasoned pros make. If time permits, we'll also practice laying out and cutting dovetails for oddly angled corners. Bring a backsaw, a few chisels, a marking gauge and a bevel gauge, and leave knowing that you can make joints to brag about.
Sat., Dec 18, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
