IYRS Library
Located on the Newport campus, the IYRS library is a handsomely restored space inside the 1831 Aquidneck Mill. Perched on the top floor of the mill, the library commands extraordinary views of the harbor and its entrance from Narragansett Bay.
One of the most extensive collections of maritime reference materials in the Northeast, the library contains more than 4,000 nautical titles, some 100 rare books, and source materials that give students a look into the maritime past—including logbooks, yacht registers, and yacht club directories. The collection is balanced with technical reference materials and a bank of computers that give students the resources they need to supplement the hands-on work they practice inside the student workshops.
The new library is first and foremost a research center focused on the needs of IYRS students, but the space is also open to the public.

The Museum of Yachting—whose library was combined with the school’s to create the current collection—stages exhibitions at the library that draw members of the community and yachting enthusiasts. IYRS hopes to attract a broad cross-section of people to this space, especially community youth who will be able to discover their maritime roots while enjoying one of the best aerial views in Newport
