Mill Building Capital Campaign

The Aquidneck Mill Restoration

Aquidneck MillThe Aquidneck mill is the most important surviving example of 19th century industrial development in Newport and represents the last large-scale restoration remaining on the city’s historic waterfront.  The mill building retains a significant amount of its historic fabric, a rarity in Newport’s architectural landscape.  While the building still exhibits considerable period detailing, it is in urgent need of repair.

The IYRS mission statement includes a commitment to safeguard the school’s historic buildings as an important part of America’s working waterfront.  Restoration of the Aquidneck mill will complete the transformation of this once-abandoned section of the Newport waterfront into a center for maritime education and preservation.
