Training Programs at IYRS
Our training programs prepare students to handle every challenge the marine industry may hold, and IYRS students benefit from an education that immerses them in problem solving, teamwork, project management, hands-on skills, and a culture of craftsmanship.
Our curricula, faculty, and location are key to the success of the school and our students.
Our Curricula. We are the only school with a 20-month Boatbuilding & Restoration program. IYRS also offers a 6-month Marine Systems program for American Boat & Yacht Council certification, a gold-medal standard in the industry, and a 6-month Composites Technology program that has been heralded as the most comprehensive program in the field. IYRS also offers Continuing Education courses for professional development, so individuals can advance their skills while working full-time.
Our Faculty. Our faculty members are deeply experienced in both the theoretical and practical aspects of what they teach, and our programs mirror that same balance of theory and hands-on learning. IYRS students not only learn “how,” but they also understand “why”—and that ability to think critically and solve problems sets our students apart.
Our Location. IYRS is located in Rhode Island, a state whose 400 miles of coastline have made it the epicenter of the marine industry in the Northeast. Our campus locations in Newport and Bristol provide ready access to boatyards, marinas, builders, and restoration specialists. The school maintains a close association with industry partners who know the quality of our programs and our graduates. These companies look to IYRS as a source for highly skilled employees.
